Buy Trimethoprim Trimethoprim 200mg tablets are prescription antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections that cause urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as cystitis. Trimethoprim works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic can only treat bacterial infections and will not work for viral infections.
What is Trimethoprim?
Trimethoprim is a prescription antibiotic used to treat and prevent bladder and urinary tract infections caused by bacteria. It is available in the form of a tablet or liquid. This antibiotic is effective at treating cystitis as it works to stop the growth of bacteria causing the infection.  Cystitis is characterized by the inflammation of the wall of the bladder and is most commonly caused by a bacterial infection. Common symptoms include:
  • Low-grade fever
  • A persistent urge to urinate
  • A burning sensation or pain when urinating
  • Strong-smelling or cloudy urine
  • Pelvic discomfort
  • The feeling of pressure in the abdomen
In severe cases, there may be blood present in the urine (haematuria). It is recommended to seek medical attention if you have fever, chills, vomiting, nausea, or pain in your back and side. This may indicate that the infection has moved up the urinary tract into the kidneys.  There is a growing resistance to Trimethoprim; therefore, you may be prescribed another antibiotic, called nitrofurantoin, to prevent antibiotic resistance.
How does Trimethoprim work?
UTIs usually occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract through the urethra and begin to reproduce(multiply). E.coli bacteria cause most cases of UTIs. Trimethoprim works by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis (replication). This does not kill the bacteria but instead allows your immune system to destroy the bacteria causing the infection.
Dosing information
Always follow your doctor's and pharmacist's instructions and take the medication as prescribed.  The typical dosage of Trimethoprim for adults:
  • A dose of 200mg twice a day is prescribed to treat UTIs. Depending on the severity of the infection, you may be prescribed 400mg as your first dose.
  • To treat mild bacterial infections, 100mg once a day is recommended.
  • To treat acne, 300mg twice a day is recommended. This dose may be reduced over time.
  • To treat cystitis that develops after sexual intercourse. A single dose of 100mg is to be taken within two hours of intercourse.
The dose of Trimethoprim prescribed will depend on your age, the health of your kidneys, and the severity of your condition.  Children, the elderly, and people with kidney problems are usually prescribed lower doses of Trimethoprim.
